I’ve lived in this area for years, and when it came time to set up Nene Valley Accountancy Services, there was only one place I wanted to be, right here in Thrapston. The name itself was inspired by the beautiful River Nene that flows through our corner of Northamptonshire, and I wanted the business to be firmly rooted in the community I’ve always been proud to call home. It’s one of those places where you can feel the history beneath your feet as you walk down the High Street, while at the same time seeing independent businesses continuing to thrive and shape the town today.
Thrapston sits on the banks of the River Nene and has a rich history stretching back centuries. The town was granted its market charter in 1205, something that’s still celebrated each year with the much-loved Charter Fair, bringing residents, visitors and local businesses together. Mentioned in the Domesday Book as Trapestone, and home to the impressive Church of St James, Thrapston has long been a place where trade, community and local enterprise have flourished. I like to think that spirit is still very much alive today.
What makes Thrapston so special isn’t just its history, it’s the people and businesses that continue to make it a vibrant place to live and work. The High Street is full of independent shops where friendly faces and personal service are the norm. Whether you’re browsing at Handpicked Wines, picking up a beautiful bouquet from Eden Florists, or visiting Jolly’s Toys, there’s a real sense of community that you don’t often find elsewhere. Alongside independent cafés, local eateries and family-run businesses, it’s a town that genuinely values supporting local.
One of the things I’ve always appreciated about working here is how supportive the local business community is. Small businesses understand the value of working together, recommending one another and celebrating each other’s successes. As an accountant, it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of that network, helping businesses grow, navigate challenges and feel confident about their finances as they continue their journey.
Being based in Thrapston also means I’m never far away from my clients.
